Will and Montague both belong to rhia, whose work I've often admired on y!gallery. When she put up notice that she was interested in requests and art trades, I jumped on that and suggested that we trade pictures of our original characters, because I was interested in playing with Will and Montague.

This was the result, which I think I can safely say succeeded beyond my wildest dreams.

I went nuts. Man. Not only was I trying to work with foreshortening, I threw in both water effects and moonlight effects. And shadows! In the end I was more or less satisfied with everything, although the watery effects are still kind of pat and symbolic rather than literal.

This was originally drawn and inked at four times this size. Which is goddamned enormous. At full size Will's face was larger than my own. I got a startling amount of detail in the linework, as well, especially for me--me, the Queen Of Simple and Cartoony--and I really was pleased with it.

The paint job is both really good and not quite as good as I was hoping for. I like it. I like it a lot. But I was hoping for something transcendant and I got something pretty.

Ah, well. It's still pretty!
