I fear, however, that this picture says more about me than it does about Dustin. Namely hurr hurr, I'm a perv, and also, guess who my favorite character is. Hint: he's in this picture somewhere. I'm really quite pleased with his lazy slouching pose, with his legs all thrown everywhere and his shoulders burrowed into the couch cushions. My favorite part of the picture has to be his hands, though. The one on the beer can (and yes, it does say 'B33R', yes, it is a MegaTokyo reference, yes, I am very ashamed of myself, really) is really quite expressive, and the other one has some reasonably inspired shading on it. I wasn't originally going to shade this. I was getting all frustrated with the detail-y piddly linework, so I slapped on a medium watercolor brush and did that "WELL IF I WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO SHADE THIS I'D SHADE HERE AND HERE BUT I'M NOT REALLY GOING TO SHADE THIS AND THAT'S WHY I'M USING WATERCOLOR" thing. Seriously, the watercolor tool in Painter has "... psych!" written all over it. If you don't like how the watercolor is coming out, you can erase it without so much as touching your linework. But then this started turning out good, so I went 'meep' and kept it. So, yeah, sexay chiaroscuro effect, completely by accident. No arguments! |
