Viktor. The Bear. Yeah.
Am I the ONLY English-speaking person who thinks Viktor is sexy as hell?
I can't be! I know there are plenty of
Japanese people who think so. Anyway, Viktor is my absolute favorite
character in the Suikoden series to date,
and quite possibly my favorite character of all time, although I'm
still madly in love with Citan... oh, hell, I don't
know. At any rate, I LOVE Viktor. Which is why I've drawn him about
fourteen zillion times, I guess.
The working title of this picture was 'Half A Viktor'. I wonder why.
You know, this was just supposed to be a throwaway sketch to break in
my new 11x14 sketchbook. But, hey, it
turned out well enough that I decided to finish it off anyway... you
guys think I've been looking at Japanese
fanart too much recently? Too many of those half-face pictures that
fade into white, too much of that incredible
attention to detail in their shading? Naaaaaah, it couldn't be
THAT.
Anyway, I like his facial features, particularly that Viktor-specific
round nose of his... and I had a lot of fun doing
the hair. I can't seem to settle down and draw Viktor's hair seriously.
I keep giving him these shaggy hairdos, and
this one looks positively J-rock. His shirt is probably a bit too plain
(no folds or anything), but all in all, it's not
bad. For the tiny bit of it that shows, anyway.
Painter is my god. Usually I just do a slapdash coloring effort, but
this time I actually spent some time working
on the tones... I'm still not completely satisfied with his hair. I
dried the hair layer too early, and when I went back to fix it,
this was the best I could do... it's pixelly in spots. I did the visible-brushstrokes
thing on purpose, though, to make it
look more... hair-like. I guess it sort of worked. ^^;
But, damn, that skin tone... took hours. It was worth it. In six months
I'll hate this picture, but I'm altogether too happy
with it right now. ^^;;;;
Here's the uncleaned
pencil sketch, which is also at the original monstrous size. Very very
little changed, although
he looks smirkier in the original sketch. The CG looks more... pensive.
