Gaara of the Sand (of the Desert?), in all his cranky-ass NO TOUCHY! glory.
I do like the sketch, more or less. I'm pleased with his position and
the way that he's emerging from the sand,
and the expression is fun even if the line around his mouth didn't
ever scan very well. I like how the sand drips at
the top and flows along the inside, too; I was originally going to
have the top be cracked, like an eggshell, but I like
this better. And oooh, drapery, go me. Ha.
Inking went smoothly. No major holdups, nothing really bad happening.
But then... then I tried to color it, and it turned into this monstrosity.
Actually, Gaara himself colored up pretty well,
but the sand? God. I can't suggest sand at all. I spent hours and days
trying to make the sand come out well, and
this is the very best I could do. Ick. Sorry, Mom.
It makes me cranky that such a promising picture got such a lousy coloring
job, but I seriously am not able to do
better at this time. Maybe once I get better, I'll recolor it, and
see if it doesn't come out better then.
