This is Borus. That was Karaya. Any questions?
... I almost wrote that on the picture. Saner heads prevailed.
I like Borus well enough for what he is. I'm not entirely sure why I
chose to draw him when there are many characters from the game
I like better -- indeed, many characters that I don't want to
punch in the face a couple of times -- but despite it all, he kind of grew
on
me, with his hopeless, hopeless crush on Chris and his basic inability
to relax his clenched sphincter. I must admit he made a
most effective catalyst for the events of Chapter 1, and when he's
not being a violent racist prick he falls into that 'complete dork'
category that I love so much.
Oh, this was just fun. The sketch took forever -- I couldn't get the
eyes right for the longest time, including one attempt that was so
disturbing that I squeaked in fear and erased it right away -- but
I knew what I wanted to draw, and eventually, I drew it, more or less.
The
hair's even better than usual, although that isn't saying much.
The inkwork was also better than usual, although I lost a lot of the
subtleties of the linework while cleaning the drawing in Photoshop.
Blech. Oh well. He looked more insane in the sketch, alas. Stupid inking.
For a change, I actually colored this entirely in Photoshop. Some times
nothing will do but fields of flat color and a good Gaussian
blur. I downloaded this lovely, lovely set of 'hair' brushes which
did a good job of duplicating the kind of effect I usually go for in
Painter; sometimes I forgot how much fun Photoshop can be.
Fire = fun.
Staring at headache-inducing fields of bright orange in Photoshop for
hours = not fun.
