So, maybe, a thousand years after the Zodiac Brave Story, the church
grants Ramza his proper place in church
hierarchy - the martyred saint. Or perhaps I'm on drugs.
DAMN, this was fun. As sketches go, it's pretty modest: head and shoulders
shot, full face. But I did draw a hand and
some drapery, so I wasn't being totally lazy. For reference's sake,
that's the Zodiac stone 'Virgo' that he's holding. I even
used reference art for it! 'Virgo' had... er... a special part in FFTactics,
you may recall. I'm not trying to imply that Ramza
was a virgin when he died or anything. Although he probably was. Who
knows?
(For the record, no, I'm not a Virgo. I'm a Leo. But the Leo stone
didn't really show up in Tactics, and Virgo did.)
Painting this took two days and a LOT of work, but I enjoyed it immensely.
Ramza himself is done with watercolors, and
the face was a happy accident; I can't believe how well it turned out.
That's supposed to be his blue armor from the fourth
chapter.... too much damn blue! Blue armor, blue background, even a
blue damn Zodiac Stone! I should have given him the
brownish-red armor instead. But I like blue better. Oh well.
I did the background (such as it is) with oil paints, and it's meant
to look like a medieval icon, halo and all. Flat color, visible
brushstrokes, floating words, etc. I'm not entirely sure how well I
got that across, but I'm satisfied. The words look kind of dumb,
but they weren't going to look any better...
Here's the picture
without the background, at a larger size so that you can see all the
extra details. I hate having to reduce
pictures, but it was kind of necessary. ^^;
