Biography: A computer genius par excellence (and a nerd in the most classic socially-awkward sense), Rich went to college in his native Seattle, breezing through his classes by day and hacking into underprotected computer systems with a group of like-minded friends all night. At least, until his junior year, when an FBI sting rounded up a good three-quarters of his fellow hackers and put most of them in jail. Through an incredibly lucky fluke Rich was neither caught nor implicated--his record is utterly clean--and once he got over his scare he was not slow to see it as an opportunity. A chance to go head-to-head with the best hackers in the nation and prove who was the best? (A chance to do all sorts of not-quite-legal things under the protective wing of the government?) That sounded much more interesting than anything else he'd thought of to date.
While Rich did consider the NSA, in the end he stuck with the FBI, as he'd originally planned. He was at the academy at the same time as Simon and is actually the team member Simon has known longest; when Simon was forming Team Templar, Rich was the first person he thought of, and the last to actually join.

Trivia: Despite being one of the team's techs and therefore seldom, if ever, actually in the line of fire, Rich is one of the best shots on the team, if not the fastest draw.

Author's note: That's not his PDA. Rich hates PDAs; he thinks they're idiotic overpriced executive toys. However, Simon most certainly did not ask him to break into that one and copy out the notes inside it.
